[NIV] When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. [새성경] 말이 많은 데에는 허물이 있기 마련 입술을 조심하는 이는 사려 깊은 사람이다.

[NIV] The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value. [새성경] 의인의 혀는 순수한 은과 같지만 악인의 마음은 별 가치가 없다.

[NIV] The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment. [새성경] 의인의 입술은 많은 이를 먹여 살리지만 미련한 자들은 지각이 없어 죽어 간다.

[NIV] The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it. [새성경] 주님의 복은 부를 가져오지만 사람의 노고는 보탬이 되지 않는다. 여호와께서 복을 주시고, 근심을 겸하여 주시지 않는다.
[NIV] A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom. [새성경] 우둔한 자는 부정한 짓을 즐기고 슬기로운 이는 지혜를 즐긴다.

[NIV] What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted. [새성경] 악인에게는 무서워하는 일이 닥치고 의인에게는 바라는 일이 이루어진다.

[NIV] When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. [새성경] 폭풍이 지나가면 악인은 없어져도 의인은 영원한 토대 위에 서 있다.

[NIV] As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is a sluggard to those who send him. [새성경] 게으름뱅이는 심부름시키는 사람에게 이에 식초요 눈에 연기와 같다.

[NIV] The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. [새성경] 주님을 경외함은 살날을 더해 주지만 악인의 수명은 짧아진다.
